The BIG SKY PROJECT Aug-Dec 2024 Grande Prairie AB.
About the Paintings (The Inspiration)
In August of this year, enjoying an especially beautiful Prairie Summer day, I was seized upon by the specter of Old Man Winter trying to hide among the Green trees as a cluster of sneaky Yellow leaves. Like a Bee or maybe a Squirrel I was suddenly compelled to shore up my winter shelter.
A voice from Heaven rang out like a bell inside my mind. “GO SOMEWHERE AND PAINT!” (you fool). But what would I paint? “LOOK! THE SKY!” Okay, but then What? “NO MORE QUESTIONS, GET BUSY!”
As it will happen when you follow the Spirit, everything fell quickly into place. I found #109 Downtown Grande Prairie, loaded it up with some canvas (2x1 Sale at Michaels!) Paint and a Coffee machine and started pushing some colors around. I decided I would attempt 20 paintings within 6 months, which is 1 painting every 9.5 days. No Problem. I already had the 1st 4 works in mind.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Please make of these paintings what you will. I hope they will set your mind free to wander in dreamy skies. Is the Sun rising or setting? Is it Dawn or Twilight?
The canvas is intentionally set upright in portrait position unlike the traditional and literal Landscape position. This is so that the immensity of the Sky may be portrayed and dominate the Painting. The Cloud formations and landscapes are an amalgamation of my observations and sketches that Spanned from The Kiskatinaw River in Northern BC to Lake Winnipeg in Central Manitoba.
Mostly the paintings are inspired by our own little slice of Heaven right here in the Peace Country and the musings of the Holy Spirit.
Thank you for looking!
